Pre-convocation cocktail reception
On May 27, the Class of 1965 invited the graduating Class of 2015 for cocktails at the Faculty Club. Alumni young and old mingled with friends, family and well-wishers. Dean Daniel Jutras gave a short speech, introducing Cookie Lazarus, BCL’ 65, who shared with the guests some of the lessons he’s learned over his storied 50-year career. We’ve interviewed Mr Lazarus and we have his complete Twelve Lessons for viewing.

2015 Law Spring Convocation
This year, the address was given by Professor Martti Koskenniemi, who was awarded the LL.D. distinction during the convocation ceremony. He spoke about how “law is meant to realize the happiness of human beings… is the science of the flourishing of the human community.” You can watch his address here: youtube.com/watch?v=P57LPBiy70Q
The McGill Alumni office also interviewed Martti Koskenniemi for his advice for all McGill alumni: youtube.com/watch?v=kzqWPqWe1fo
You can relive the ceremony on McGill’s BcoolTV channel. Among the highlights, Professor Frédéric Bachand was awarded this year’s John W. Durnford Teaching Excellence Award by the Law Student Association (starts at 00:31:00) after being introduced by Professor Angela Campbell. David Groves, BCL/LLB’15, was this year’s valedictorian and gave a humourous speech about the beauty of failure (starts at 01:13:15). Finally, you can listen to Dean Daniel Jutras boiling down his thoughts on “learning to think like a lawyer” to “learning to think” and, finally, to simply “learning” (starts at 01:43:50).
