La pandémie ayant empêché le gala en présentiel l’année dernière, le gala de cette année, qui se tenait le 16 novembre, a célébré les récipiendaires de la désignation Ad E des cohortes de 2020 et de 2021.

Bravo to Larissa Parker, BCL/JD’21, whose essay on “Beyond Non-Justiciability for Public Interest Climate Litigation” won silver at the 2021 Global Climate Law Governance Student Essay Competition.

In the federal cabinet formed on 26 October, Professor David Lametti, BCL’89, LLB’89, was re-appointed as Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, while Marc Miller, BCL’01, LLB’01, was appointed Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations, and.
On 26 October, Professor Alicia Hinarejos welcomed back Joshua Krane, BCL/LLB’08, to her class Government Control of Business to discuss Canadian competition law and big tech.
Lisa Shemie, BCL’94, LLB’94 was named General Counsel and Corporate Secretary at OANDA in October.
On 21 October, Woods LLP announced that Sarah Woods, BCL/LLB’03, was selected to become a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. This honorary organization of lawyers, judges, and legal scholars have demonstrated through their careers their outstanding dedication to the highest principles of the legal profession.
On 18 October, McGill University’s Board of Governors announced that Samuel Minzberg, BCL’73, LLB’79, would be named a governor emeritus effective 1 July 2022.

On 22 September, Ma’n H. Zawati, DCL’19, published a book, “Reciprocity in Populatino Biobanks,” based on his DCL thesis. It proposes a reconceived duty to inform for researchers that is more meaningful for research participants and research.
Norman M. Steingberg, BCL’75, was appointed to the Board of Directors of Atco on 1 September. He is Vice-Chair of BFL Canada and sits on the board of BFL Canada, Dorel Industries, Fiera Capital, and he chairs the McGill University Health Centre Foundation, co-chairs Women in Governance, and is involved in various other organizations.
In September, Marko Pavliha, DCL’92, was awarded the Golden Plaque from the International Maritime Law Institute. This award is given for exceptional contributions to the development of scientific, pedagogical or artistic endeavours, and for strengthening the reputation of the University of Ljubljana, where Marko Pavliha is a professor.
