2014-december-voir-montreal-fraser-dickson-2196 Fraser Dickson, a 3L student in the BCL/LLB program, acted as a rapporteur at the je vois mtl symposium.

1. How long have you lived in Montreal?

A: This is my tenth year.

2. Name your favourite and least favourite thing about living in this city

A: Favourite: Its history and bilingualism. Least Favourite: organized crime and corruption.

3. For which organizations did you act as a rapporteur?

A: Le Centre de recherche interdisciplinaire en études montréalaises (CRIEM) and Young Canadians in Finance

4. What was the most exciting/fun aspect of the experience?

A: Assisting these dynamic leaders in getting the most out of the experts who were there to help them.

5. What was the most challenging aspect?

A: The compressed time frame in which we had to learn our jobs and be ready to support our leaders, no matter which way their conversation with the experts went.

6. What did you learn?

A: That Montreal will never need to worry about having enough talent or imagination. The city’s gifts were on full display.

7. How did the experience contribute to your legal education?

A: It was a great simulation of a number of different aspects of practice: becoming master of a file, moving on a tight timeline, guiding a client through an unfamiliar format, being a calming and facilitative presence for what they want to do.

8. What are your thoughts on the relationship between McGill and Montreal?

A: McGill remains the definitive meeting place for the city’s several identities: corporate, student, artistic, historical, international and cosmopolitan. It is, and should always be, a major force for the city’s better angels.

9. Anything else you want to add?

A: This was a tremendous experience and I would urge the Faculty to keep putting its students forward whenever an opportunity to show their skills and contribute to the greater good comes up. Even if it seems like the job will be overwhelming, it won’t be: we’re trained very well here and we’ll figure it out.
