On August 26, we welcomed the entering class of 2019 to Chancellor Day Hall for the very first day of their law studies. We share photos of the day and some statistics about our newest students.

La Journée de bienvenue a commencé dans l’Atrium, où l’équipe de l’AED a été sur place pour accueillir les étudiant.e.s et leur fournir leur trousse d’orientation. Après quoi, la nouvelle cohorte, ainsi que des membres du corps professoral et du personnel, ont pris place dans la salle du Tribunal-École Maxwell-Cohen pour entendre la doyenne adjointe (admissions et recrutement) Andra Syvänen, BCL/LLB’14.
During her speech, Me Syvanen explained that embarking on a career in law takes courage. “I remember when the prospect of law school and all that followed it stretched out ahead of me like an endless road,” she said. “And that’s what law school, and a career in law, really is: a journey to be tackled. Some parts of it will be really hard. Some parts of it will be easy as pie. All of it will open your mind and introduce you to a new way of thinking that will change you forever.”
Ensuite, nous avons entendu la présidente de l’AED Gabrielle Landry et le doyen Robert Leckey. Après les présentations, le doyen a distribué une copie du Code civil du Québec aux personnes inscrites au BCL/LLB. After lunch, we reconvened for the inter-tribal welcome, where Kanehsatake Elder John Onawario Cree, a Bear Clan Faithkeeper, offered advice and a prayer, and then conducted a smudging ceremony while the Buffalo Hat Singers gave a fantastic drumming performance.
